More Life

Some mornings begin with sunshine, filling the room with light before I've even had my first cup of coffee. Other mornings begin with memories that quietly find their way into my thoughts before the day has properly started. I've learned to welcome both, because both are simply part of being alive.

For a long time, I believed life would become easier once everything fell into place, once the difficult chapters were behind me and every loose end had been tied.

But life has taught me something much gentler than that. It isn't about waiting for perfection, collecting only the easy days, or pretending the painful ones never happened. It's about discovering that our hearts are capable of holding so much more than we ever imagined.

A grateful heart can exist alongside a restless mind. A quiet smile can accompany a memory that still lingers. We can carry hope, curiosity, joy and longing all at the same time, and somehow none of those feelings cancel the others out. They simply become part of the wonderfully complicated story of being human.

I choose long coffees that unexpectedly turn into hours of conversation.
I choose dinners that end with aching cheeks because we've laughed so much.
I choose forests, mountains and oceans that remind me how wonderfully small I am.
I choose books that challenge my thinking, music that makes me sing along in the car, and sunsets that somehow make ordinary evenings feel unforgettable.

Somewhere along the way I stopped believing that happiness was a destination waiting for me somewhere in the future. I think it has always been much smaller than that.

It lives in a smile shared with a friend, in a butterfly crossing your path without warning, in the comforting smell of fresh coffee, or in that quiet moment when you look up and notice the first stars appearing in the evening sky.

Life has never asked me to choose between joy and longing. It has simply invited me to experience both, sometimes on the very same day, and to discover that they can exist together far more peacefully than I ever expected.

So I'll keep saying yes. Yes to new places, to old friends, to unexpected conversations that leave me thinking long after they've ended, and to curious adventures that remind me there is always something new to discover. I'll keep saying yes to all those ordinary moments that quietly become extraordinary simply because I was fully present when they happened.

Because in the end, I don't want to measure my life by the years that have passed, but by the moments that made me feel truly alive.

And with my heart wide open.
